Should You Use Your Summer Tyres During Winter?

Even though the autumn seasonis just around the corner, winter will be starting sooner than expected. If you currently live within an area where snows constantly, then you may need to switch your vehicle's Michelin Tyres Peterborough if they aremade for the summer season. But what would happen if you wished to save some money on the total cost of replacing them? Can people use summer car tyres during the winter? We will try to answer that question.

What are summer tyres?

These tyres are used primarily for performance driving and are usually recommended for and found on sporty vehicles. They have a softer compound and dedicated tread for extra grip. The grooves used in summer tyres are there especially for channelling debris and water. When it rains, so you will notice that these tyres will have lesstraction.

Different compounds will reactdifferently

On the other hand, snow tyres are exactly the opposite. Once the climate gets cooler and temperatures fallbelow seven degrees Celsius, that is when snow tyres come in handy. Snow tyresare designed with a much deeper tread along with several cuts called sipes that go all across them. This elaborate design helps to remove unnecessary build up from icy roads as the cuts pack ice and snow between the blocks and deliver extra traction on ice. So, in other words: We do not recommend using summer tyres during the winter season as your vehicle's grip will suffer significantlyand potentially cause a car accident or a flat tyre.

What about the famousall-season tyres?

Nowadays, most modern vehicles are equipped with all-season tyres. If summer car tyres utilize a softer rubber compound for improved traction during summer and snow tyres use unique tread patterns to help provide extra grip on wet roads, then you should consider all-season as the best of both worlds. Though that does not indicate that all-seasons are perfect in both summer and winter time.

In fact, all-seasons perform properly in hotter and cold temperatures, but they will never reach the level that dedicated summer and winter tyres provide to all drivers. All-season tyres are able to perform satisfactorily in snow, but only if the road is covered only by a thin sheet of snow. However, they will never offer the same handling and cornering performance as true snow tyres.

So, what are the best tyres forthis time of the year?

It depends on where you live. If you reside in a region which usually gets snow during winter, then the bestoption is to switch your summer car tyres for a nice set of winter tyres assoon as the snow begins to cover the ground. Then you can simply shift them back once spring hits again. But if you hate the idea of switching your tyres several times a year, we suggest getting two sets of tyres, one for summer and another one for winter.

Which tyre is the best for yourvehicle?

The proper type of car Tyres Peterborough for your vehicle will depend on your area and the type of driver that you are. Winter tyres will work best if you are living in places with harsh winter conditions.
